Growth Expected in the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Software Market

EHS Software market estimated to be 17% segment of overall $4.4-billion dollar industry.

According to a recent report issued by the Environmental Business Journal (Vol. XVIII, No. 9/10, 2005, "Instruments & Information Systems”), the market for Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) software still has ample room for growth.

The Environmental Business Journal estimates that environmental software and related services represented a 17% segment of the $4.4-billion environmental instruments and information industry during 2004. EBJ combined the software and instrument sectors into a single business segment some ten years ago, recognizing that these symbiotic portions of the environmental industry stand at the crucial “you can’t manage what you can’t measure” juncture of environmental response and protection.

A trend recently seen in the EHS industry is software packages “going international” by handling multiple languages and addressing ISO 14001 requirements. With this globalization of EHS software comes the migration of software providers, as U.S. firms seek overseas markets, and as non-U.S. firms make inroads to the U.S. market.

All in all, there are ample signs of maturity in the segment in terms of increased business sophistication on the part of software providers.
