Today is May 24 – and you know what that means! The much-anticipated global warming movie from Al Gore, An Inconvenient Truth, airs in select theatres in NYC and LA today. During the past month, there’s been much celebrating and smearing on both sides of the environmental spectrum. So let’s talk about the smearing, as that subject is always more interesting: Not to be outdone by the CEI ads, Fox News ran some interesting “fair and balanced” coverage on Al Gore’s global warming movie. Sterling Burnett, a senior fellow at the National Center for Policy Analysis, an organization backed by Exxon, compared Al Gore’s film with Nazi propaganda. If you want to see the video, visit Think Progress' site (you'll need to install QuickTime in order to see the footage). Here’s the quote: “That’s the problem. If I thought Al Gore’s movie was as you like to say, fair and balanced, I’d say, everyone should go see it. But why go see propaganda? You don’t go see Joseph Goebbels’ films to see the truth about Nazi Germany. You don’t go see Al Gore’s films to see the truth about global warming.”
President Bush is heeding Fox News’ advice, and says that he won't see the Gore film. Not to be outdone, Al Gore offered to show a viewing at the White House, at any time that is convenient for the president. Maybe Barney, the Bush’s dog, will attend. What do you think of the movie? Comments are always welcomed. UPDATED -- it looks like Grist Magazine was very impressed. By Erin Swanson ESwanson@enviance.com |
