Use seaweed to treat effluents in wastewater

The researchers are at it again – developing applications they discover in nature for large-scale industrial uses such as treating wastewater. 

Case in point: Indian researchers have found that Sargassum wightii, a brown algae, is as effective or better than activated carbon and natural zeolites that are conventionally used to remove heavy metalsCurrent Science [Current Science (Vol 90, No 9, May 10, 2006)]. from industrial effluents.
