Carbon Footprint Gaining Attention

More companies measuring carbon footprints

According to GreenBiz.com, about 75% of companies are actively measuring their "carbon footprint" – the range of carbon emissions from their operations, both direct and indirect.

The GreenBiz report is based on a survey of 92 companies from various industries and looks at how companies are integrating greenhouse gas management into their overall business strategy.

The term carbon footprint and carbon neutral was even discussed on Comedy Centrals’ Colbert Report last night.  Jeffrey Swartz, CEO of Timberland, was interviewed about his stance as an environmental activist (be sure to hold down the ctrl key to allow the video pop-up).

As Colbert so eloquently questioned, “Isn’t it the role of CEOs to dump heavy metals in rivers and cause birth defects?  … I mean, if you have chose between making this quarter’s earnings or saving the earth, don’t you owe it to your shareholders to destroy the earth?

Swartz was able to defend his company’s status on becoming carbon neutral throughout Colbert's jokes.  Gotta love Comedy Central.
