| | THE ENVIANCE BLOG Excerpt from: Health and Safety
| | | January 05, 2007 | | Discover the dark side of the meat industry and its impact on our environment | I just read a disturbing article on Smithfield Foods entitled, “Boss Hog”. This top American pork producer churns out a sea of waste that has destroyed rivers, killed millions of fish and generated one of the largest fines in EPA history. The Rollingstone article provides a gory insight into the dark side to the “other white meat”. Evidence shows that our meat-based diet is bad for the environment, aggravates global hunger, brutalizes animals and compromises our health.
If this article doesn’t make you want to become a vegetarian, I don’t know what will. Oh, and I had to include my favorite meat link in the world, “The Meatrix”. It’s won numerous awards on its clever writing and uncovering the meat industry’s dirty little (big) secrets. On that lovely, noxious note, I wish you a very pleasant weekend! by Erin Swanson Eswanson@enviance.com | | |
