Perchlorate aka Rocket Fuel in Nation's Drinking Water

Perchlorate (aka rocket fuel) has turned up in the nation's drinking water

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) is leading a tireless campaign against the current levels of rocket fuel (aka perchlorate) in the nation’s drinking water.  Based on a series of critical new studies by the CDC that the EPA’s proposed safe exposure level for the rocket fuel contaminant perchlorate is not protective of public health, EWG testified in the House last month to establish a healthy protective drinking water standard for the toxic substance.

While testifying, Anila Jacob, M.D. was challenged by Illinois Congressman John Shimkus that the financial burden of cleaning up drinking water would be too burdensome for corporate giants like Lockheed Martin.  Dr. Jacob replied that Congress’s first concern out to be the health of the nation’s children who are forced to drink rocket fuel in their tap water.

To increase public awareness about the dangers of perchlorate in drinking water, Dr. Jacob also appeared on ABC’s Good Morning America.  Watch the short video here.

Hats off to the EWG for tackling this important public health matter.

Make sure you call Mom this Sunday!
