Sustainability Support Pledged by Chemical Society Presidents

Six chemical society presidents support sustainability at Paris meeting

The presidents of 6 lead chemical societies, representing nearly 300,000 members, pledged support of sustainability initiatives to ensure the well-being of the Earth and its inhabitants.

To address the sustainability challenges, the societies agreed to collaborate with stakeholders in government, academia, industry, and other sectors of the international community to promote education, innovation, and communication, in collaboration with others, as the basis for solving the most important challenge now facing humankind.

The 6 presidents signing the sustainability statement:

  1. Jim Feast, Royal Society of Chemistry
  2. Peter Folstar, Dutch Chemical Society
  3. Akira Fujishima, Chemical Society of Japan
  4. Armand Lattes, French Chemical Society
  5. Catherine T. Hunt, American Chemical Society
  6. Dieter Jahn, German Chemical Society

Let’s hope we see improvements to the chemical industry's sustainability report cards, as they haven't had a good history.  Environmental and safety violations are a common occurrence -- for a sampling of examples, read here and here and here.
