| August 23, 2007 | | A U.S. federal judge ordered the Bush administration to issue a research plan as well as a national assessment on global warming. | This week, a U.S. federal judge ruled that the Bush administration had violated a 1990 law calling for an updated climate change research plan every three years. The last plan was issued in 2003. The judge set a March 1st deadline for the new research plan as well as a May 31st deadline for an assessment containing the mot recent scientific data on global warming and its projected effects on the country's environment, economy, and public health. The last assessment was issued in 2000, during the Clinton administration. Plaintiffs in the case included: the Center for Biological Diversity, Friends of the Earth, and Greenpeace. I can't wait to see what's in the new research plan, and especially what will be in the assessment when they both come out next spring! By Cassandra Darwin cdarwin@enviance.com | | |
