| October 01, 2007 | | Last week, Dell announced that they will be the first major computer company to become carbon neutral. | Dell has committed to extend their global climate policy by making worldwide operations carbon-neutral by 2008, a year earlier than it previously promised. Dell is working with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as a member of the EPA’s Climate Leaders Program on an inventory of the company’s GHG emissions from U.S. operations. Going carbon-neutral means the company will find ways to offset every pound of greenhouse gas (GHG) generated in the production, transportation and sales of its computers. Dell's major push is going to be securing renewable energy resources. They will also increase efficiency and use carbon offsets for remaining GHG emissions. Iza Kruszewska of Greenpeace International applauded their efforts, but also pointed out that the carbon neutrality is only applying to the company's operations, but not to the lifecycle of the computers themselves. What kind of impact do you think e-waste is going to have on our environment and regulations? By Cassandra Darwin cdarwin@enviance.com | | |
