News from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI)

The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) has announced it’s first CO2 allowance auction to be held on (9/25/2008) for electric generation power plants operating in six New England states (Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont).\nThis is the first round auction, basically a trial among New England states; the remaining RGGI states (NY, NJ, DE, MD and PA) are scheduled to initiate their auctions in early-mid 2009.

This market is mandatory for power generating units in these states (the same units participating on NOx and SO2 trading), but anyone can participate in the market.  This website below provides additional info.
