| February 03, 2006 | | Greenhouse gas initiatives = top agenda item at this year’s Utility conference | I’m still recovering from attending last week’s EUEC conference in Tucson, AZ. The onslaught of presentation tracks started at 7:30 AM and didn’t end until 6 PM. Suffice to say, it took a talented presenter with an excellent topic to capture my interest (i.e. keep me awake). My favorite by far was in the greenhouse gas track where Greg McCall gave excellent talks on how he implemented an inventory system to track AEP’s GHG emissions from its many facilities throughout the country. I had no idea how complicated this process was until I saw the intricate workflow that each plant possessed. Not to mention all the data integration issues. And I was very impressed by AEP’s proactive approach to decrease their greenhouse gas emissions. AEP participates in a variety of GHG initiatives such as the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX), the DOE / EIA Climate Challenge and the EPA Climate Leaders.
