Mr. Sandor listed some reasons why big companies such as DuPont and American Electric Power volunteer to decrease their greenhouse gas emissions: - Provides a competitive advantage
- Protects shareholder value
- Prepares for a carbon constrained world as the Kyoto Protocol becomes more important in the U.S.
- Environmental coalition organizations like CERES and compliance laws like Sarbanes Oxley are requiring a more transparent environment
When asked if the federal government should regulate corporations' emissions, Mr. Sandor was quick to reply that the Chicago Climate Exchange was not a policy tool and had no political view point.
