| May 11, 2006 | | Guess who gets the top grade for environmental endeavors? Hint: No one in Europe. | Wired Magazine publicized a score card rating the top 5 environmental organizations. What surprises me is that the lowest scorers – Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth International -- are both headquartered in Amsterdam.
Europe far surpasses the US in any cause related to the environment (from the Kyoto Protocol to higher gasoline taxes), so it’s surprising that Europe’s big “green” organization fighters are considered average at best by US standards.
Here's the report card overview: Organization | Grade | Environmental Defense New York City | A | Friends of the Earth International Amsterdam | C | Greenpeace Amsterdam | C+ | Natural Resources Defense Council New York City | B+ | Sierra Club San Francisco | B- |
